About Us

The Townsville & JCU Rowing Club (T&JCU RC) is situated on the banks of the picturesque Ross River between Gleeson's and Aplin's Weir.  The boathouse occupies the lower ground floor of Riverside Gardens Community Centre on Riverside Boulevard, Douglas.  Click here for Google Maps.

T&JCU Rowing Club is a nonprofit organization and is run solely by club members who volunteer their time.  Community participation is a high priority for our club and we aim to accommodate members of the local and wider community. We offer a range of rowing programs consisting of Learn to Row Programs; School Based Rowing; YouthROW and both Recreational and Competitive Masters Programs.

The boatshed houses a range of ergometers and provides storage for the club's fleet of sculling and rowing shells and coaching tinnies.  It is also the home base for five local schools who are members of the Townsville All Schools Rowing Association (TASRA).

A high proportion of our club members are active rowers and can often be seen rowing on the scenic 5km Ross River between the Gleeson’s Weir and Aplin's Weir, most often in the early hours of the morning to beat the tropical heat of the day and late afternoon.

Regular regattas (school, club, championship) are held on the 1000m competition course. Over the years the club has produced many excellent rowers and currently includes members who have represented Queensland and Australia.

The Club is governed by an elected Management Committee that meets on a monthly basis to formulate development strategies and conduct the day-to-day running of the club's affairs; Townsville & JCU Rowing Club is also an affiliated member of Rowing Queensland Incorporated.
